Halloween
I’m a little late with this post (as usual) but I thought I’d share with you guys my halloween costume this year. I was stressing about what to be weeks before the party and had no good ideas for a costume so I turned to the trusty internet for inspiration. I came across some internet meme-themed costumed and thought I could tackle one of them. Nyan cat (or poptart cat) seemed to be a good one to try to recreate so I got all my supplies and worked for 2 days at the bf’s house on it. Here is the poptart:

I attached a strap made of duct tape so I could wear it around my neck. I glued streamers on the end for the rainbow (you’ll see in the later pic). None of the stores I went to had gray cat ears so I decided to just make my own with felt and a headband. Here they are:

I also made a gray felt tail that I wore on a belt. The rest of the costume was easy! All gray clothing and some face paint whiskers. Here it is all put together (and me acting like a goober:

Birthdays
It was a big week for birthdays around here! Mine was on Sunday. Some friends and I went out on Saturday night for some drinks. I got some awesome (and random) gifts from my friends.

Then on Sunday the bf took me to dinner at the Border Cafe (my choice). The food was delicious as always and we got some cupcakes from Sweet to take home. The bf also did very well with presents!

They both have special meaning to our relationship so it was very thoughtful of him! And they both fit too! So I knew that I really had to step it up and make his day special too. His birthday was on Tuesday so I made sure to text him at midnight the night before. Then I spent all day baking his favorite cake. So stressful!! I’m not a good baker.

I think the end result came out pretty good! And it tasted fantastic! I picked him up from work and we went out to a sushi dinner (his choice). It was a great day and he really liked his gifts from me as well. Here’s hoping there are many more great birthdays ahead for us!
Camping!
So the bf and I went camping this past weekend at Pawtuckaway State Park in NH. It was my first time sleeping in an actual tent. Needless to say, it was a little out of my comfort zone but the bf was super excited about it so I agreed. We borrowed a lot of equipment from friends which cut down on costs a lot and stocked up on essentials and food (s’mores!!!). We planned to go up on Friday after work to get two nights out of the trip. Well….it poured that night. We tried to wait it out in the car but there was no letting up in sight so we decided to put the tent up in the rain. Big props to the bf for having practiced setting up the tent the night before and got it up really fast. We calmed down with a beer and played some cards before hitting the hay. But the rain and wind made pine cones and pine needles fall on the tent and freak us out all night long! So I didn’t get too much sleep that night. The next day was much better. It was beautiful and sunny! We went on a hike to the top of the mountain trial. And of course, we had to keep the rivalry going with our Sox/Yanks hats! It was so much fun and a beautiful view from the top:

We came back to the tent and took an epic nap then set up the grill for dinner. We had some weiners and potatoes then made a campfire and s’mores! The second night was much better to sleep. Sunday we packed up early and hit up a diner for some delicious breakfast and got back to the city in time for football (and both our teams won too!). It was definitely relaxing and I would go again. At least next time we would be more prepared!
Updates!
It’s been a while since I’ve blogged so I thought I would do a little catching up today. I actually accomplished one of my goals I had set for myself last weekend and ran my first 5k! I had been feeling less than confident the week before it but I wasn’t last and ran the whole time which is exactly what I wanted to do. I finished in 36:07 which is pretty good for me. And I had a lot of fun! Here’s me and Kelly before the race:

I would definitely run another race. The atmosphere was cool and everyone seemed really nice and supportive. I had a nice little cheering section at the end that included my cousin, boyfriend, Kelly and Jimmy. It was definitely that little extra that I needed to finish strong.
In other news, we had the talk and the boy and I are now official bf/gf! It’s been going really well, families have been met. Next hurdle is our birthdays which are 2 days apart and approaching fast. I’m trying to think of gift ideas but I don’t know if they are any good.
Still no news on the job front. I’ve been sending out resumes but no interviews yet. I contacted a staffing agent and she is going to keep an eye out for me. Jenn also let me know that they are looking for a junior researcher at her work but I would need a car to get there so I don’t think that’s going to work out. But fingers crossed for something soon!
